Did you know that Botox can be used to treat migraines, bladder issues, and even underarm sweat? This nifty little injection has lots of surprising medical and cosmetic uses. It’s also widely misunderstood. We looked at some of the common misconceptions about Botox, and decided to set the record straight.
“Botox will fix all of my wrinkles!”
Wrinkles and facial lines fit into one of two categories: dynamic wrinkles, which result from facial movement; and static wrinkles, which are caused by aging. Botox works by relaxing the muscles that cause the facial movement that leads to dynamic wrinkles, like furrowing of the brow or frown lines. To treat static wrinkles and fine lines, consider a filler injectable like Juvederm.
“I won’t be able to smile.”
Some would-be Botox users are afraid it will paralyze their whole face, robbing them of the ability to show a range of emotions through facial expresses. But Botox relaxes only those muscles that produce deep wrinkles. You won’t lose the ability to smile, frown, or show any other emotion – You’ll just get rid of the frown lines on your forehead!
“It’s not safe.”
Botox has been approved for cosmetic use by the Food and Drug Administration since 2002. Since then, 11.8 million Botox procedures have been performed in the U.S. It’s very safe, and very common.
Injectables can be intimidating, but Botox causes only mild discomfort – and it’s over in an instant. With no recovery time, it’s a great option for the pain-averse. Much better than surgery, to say the least!
“Botox is my only option.”
Body Factory Skin Care offers three injectable treatments to address frown lines in the forehead: The well-known Botox, a similar option called Dysport, and additive-free Xeomin. Talk to a Body Factory technician, or your doctor, about which may be right for you.
“Botox lasts forever.”
Any injectable that minimizes frown lines on the forehead by blocking activity to nerves lasts somewhere in the neighborhood of three to six months. It’s quick, affordable, and relatively painless, so many choose to keep coming in. Which makes sense – one survey found that 92 percent of Botox customers were satisfied with the results!
“Only women get Botox.”
Plenty of men come to Body Factory Skin Care for Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin treatments, too!
