XEOMIN® is a new botulinum toxin type A and was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2011 for treatment of Glabellar frown lines or 11’s lines between the eyebrows.
XEOMIN is manufactured by Merz Aesthetics, and has been used worldwide for many years.
XEOMIN blocks the signals from the nerves to the muscles. As a result, the targeted muscles are not able to contract. This smooths the skin; eliminating wrinkles and enhancing the appearance of the face.
XEOMIN® VS Botox® and Dysport®
Unlike its rivals (Botox, Dysport), XEOMIN is “naked,” meaning that it is pure and has no additives. This reduces the likelihood of the patient developing a resistance to XEOMIN.
When the human body senses a foreign agent, it creates antibodies in response and launches an attack on invader. This is why botulinum toxin type A sometimes stops working for some patients.
XEOMIN is diluted in the same proportion as Botox and it also takes from three to seven days for the full effects of XEOMIN to take place, and the results last from three to six months depending on the patient.
What is Botulinum Toxin?
The active ingredient in XEOMIN is a naturally occurring protein called onabotulinumtoxin A.
XEOMIN injections, like a Botox injections relax the muscles that commonly cause wrinkles between eyes (frown lines), smile lines (crow’s feet) and forehead lines (transverse worry lines). These wrinkles are the result of often use of the upper facial muscles (frowning, squinting, smiling, raising eyebrows, quizzical expressions). These frequent muscle movements lead to dynamic wrinkles and XEOMIN is a great choice for eliminating these wrinkles.
